JAMES' BACK FROM 3RD TRIP TO KENYA. 14 Sep 08
"KENYA BUILD" IS SET TO EXPAND ITS HORIZONS AGAIN. JAMES HAS ALREADY SIGNED UP FOR THE 2009 TRIP. SEE ALL NEW WEBSITE WWW.KENYABUILD.COM
Somehow, each trip I make to Kenya, is always more special than the last.
I have just returned from my third trip to the Kenyan slums, and have already put my name down for the 2009 trip. I am officially hooked!
Last year, "Kenya Build" constructed brand-new accommodation and washing/toilet facilities for the girls at Cheryl's Children's Home, as well as building an entire classroom block. This year, it was the boys' turn, and in the last few weeks, Cheryl's boys moved into their brand-new accommodation, and like the girls, have their first ever showers and flush toilets. New classrooms have also been added this year.
Cheryl's Children's Home has been completely rebuilt and modernised from the ground up.
The Kenya Build Team also gave St Paul's Children's Care Centre in Karen a full new colourful facelift.
Cheryl's have a new 14-seater minibus, solely funded by several very generous donations. This new transport has made a huge difference to Cheryl's already, and the staff and children were visibly blown away by the generosity of people they have never even met. Thank you on behalf of Cheryl's.
Some of the children also got their first public performing experience as they appeared in a fund-raising concert, alongside Maeve Coghlan (Soprano) and myself at Nairobi's Goethe Institute. A first for the Cheryl's kids.
In 2009, Cheryl's will get further attention, but the "Kenya Build" team will also begin work at a new orphanage in the Kibera area, which needs urgent attention. Watch this space during the year for further details.
May I re-iterate my heartfelt and sincere thanks to EVERYONE, young and old, who gave so generously to make my trips to Africa life-changing experiences, as well as, of course, giving many children a second chance at life and new-found hope.
As well as all the building and upgrading, the orphanages constantly struggle to pay food bills and all the day-to-day bills we take for granted. The children's education is foremost, and this of course costs money also.
See www.cherylshome.net for how Child Sponsorship works. Since last year, more than 50 of Cheryl's Children have found sponsor-parents! Thank you all also.
This is, as I say, an ongoing project, and so if anyone feels like helping out with funding the orphanage's ongoing bills and building work, I would of course be most grateful (and so would the children!), and just rest assured that every cent is used wisely. This is an ongoing and most worthy project, and in this project there is no middle-man.
The bank details, for those interested, are below.
See more detailed information on my own website www.jamesdnelson.com or on the all-new website www.kenyabuild.com (See links on Contacts Page).
Thank you all SINCERELY!
James.

CELTIC TENORS TO PERFORM AT WORLD'S LARGEST IRISH FESTIVAL 31 Jul 08
The Celtic Tenors will again be singing at the Milwaukee IrishFest 15-17 August 08. The tenors have been delighted at being asked back after their successful debut last year.
The festival is the largest IrishFest in the world and will have some 140 000 people through its gates over the 3 days.
There is added interest this year as the Omagh Community Youth Choir are also performing. Daryl formed the choir in the wake of the Omagh Tragedy to promote peace and reconciliation through Music.
The Celtic Tenors recently helped celebrate the choir's 10th Anniversary by performing at a special Gala Dinner in Omagh recently.
It is hoped that the two groups might join force at the festival for a few songs in what promises to be a funfilled action packed weekend of Music, Song, Poetry and Dance.

TENORS PRIVILEGED TO APPEAR AT UNVEILING. 20 Jun 08
THE CELTIC TENORS WERE TRULY PRIVILEGED TO HAVE BEEN ASKED TO APPEAR AT THE UNVEILING OF A STATUE TO ONE OF THEIR TENOR HEROES, THE LATE GREAT COUNT JOHN MCCORMACK.
On June 19th 2008, a perfect recreation in bronze of the late Irish tenor superstar Count John McCormack was unveiled in Dublin's Iveagh Gardens. Liz O'Kane's superb sculpture recaptured every single detail of the late great tenor's performance posture and character, and this fine work is now on display for all to see.
The Celtic Tenors were doubly privilged to have visited Liz's studio just off Pearse Street last year, in order to model their mouth positions and facial muscles, as she was putting the finishing touches on her masterpiece.
To be mentioned in the same breath as this great man, and tenor-hero, was a moment for each of the Celtic Tenors to savour for a long time to come.
Brava Liz!

THANK YOU ROBIN! 9 May 08
TWO DEVOTED FANS OF THE CELTIC TENORS, SUPPORTED BY THEIR CHURCH, RAISE A HUGE SUM FOR THE KENYA BUILD CHARITY.
The entire Celtic Tenor team were completely taken by surprise after their most recent performance in Washington, North Carolina.
Inspired by the Celtic Tenors music, and also by James' humanitarian work in Kenya, Robin Brown, her Mum, all the family and countless members of the Dortches Baptist Church in Rocky Mount NC, have been tirelessly fundraising for Cheryl's Children in Nairobi. They managed to raise over 5000 Dollars! Thanks to their incredible efforts, Cheryl's Children's Home can now at last buy a bus.
James, and all of the Celtic Tenor team remain overwhelmed, and are blown away by this mind-blowing act of charity. This is what Christian charity is all about.
Thank you to every single person involved, and especially to you Robin.
